We all love summer! Except those who suffer from excessive sweating. Sweat-soaked shirts and sweat stains on clothes are uncomfortable on so many levels, but sweating actually has an important role. The main reason we sweat is to regulate body temperature: when we are too hot, sweating helps cool the body down. Sweating also contributes to skin hydration and to maintaining the balance of fluids and salts in the body. However, the end result – those wet patches on the body and sometimes strong body odour – can cause embarrassment and discomfort. So how can you deal with excessive sweating? Here are seven simple ways to help you sweat less and keep

Apply antiperspirant at night
You may have thought that deodorant and antiperspirant are the same thing, but there is a significant difference between them. Deodorants are mainly fragrances that mask odours, whereas antiperspirants help reduce sweating. Antiperspirants contain an ingredient that forms a kind of ‘plug’ in the sweat glands, and prescription antiperspirants do this more effectively. Our recommendation is to apply antiperspirant (with or without deodorant) at night, when the least sweat is produced. This way the product can block the sweat glands as effectively as possible and provide reliable protection throughout the day.
Avoid foods and drinks that increase sweating
A cold beer or a chilled glass of wine sounds like the perfect choice on a hot summer day, but if you tend to sweat a lot, it is worth thinking twice. Alcohol is a common cause of increased sweating, and it is also advisable to cut down on caffeine, which can likewise trigger excessive sweating. Instead, choose drinks rich in electrolytes that keep the body balanced. Spicy foods are also not recommended for people who suffer from excessive sweating. Alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods are the unholy trinity of sweat-boosting foods. They stimulate the production of adrenaline, which increases the activity of the sweat glands – especially in people with hyperhidrosis.
Botox for excessive sweating
Think Botox is only for wrinkles? Think again. Botox has received official approval from the US FDA for treating excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and it is very effective at reducing sweating in areas such as the armpits, groin, scalp and skin folds, for example under the breasts. The treatment is injected into the problem area, starts working within one to two weeks and lasts about 4 months. It is a safe treatment, but it is important to have a medical examination beforehand so it can be tailored to your needs. It is an excellent way to stay fresh even in the heat of the Israeli summer.
Prescription treatment for hyperhidrosis
If over-the-counter solutions do not help you get your sweating under control, it is worth considering a visit to a doctor. You may be suffering from hyperhidrosis, meaning sweating beyond what is considered normal. There is a misconception that people with excessive sweating experience it for years, but this is not always true. In summer, when the heat makes things worse, it can become unbearable even if a regular deodorant is enough in winter. Conditions such as pregnancy, menopause, infections or even medical problems such as heart disease or certain types of cancer can cause increased sweating, so we recommend a medical examination to rule out these causes.
Laser treatment for the armpits
Laser can be an effective tool against summer sweating. Many of our clients report a significant reduction in armpit sweating after laser hair removal treatment with the advanced Spectra InWave 4. The treatment is almost painless and also suitable for summer, so you can have it in any season and enjoy smooth skin and less sweat at the same time. It is a great way to combine beauty and practicality in the hot season.
Surgical removal of sweat glands
As a last resort, there is a surgical option. Surgery to remove the sweat glands in the armpits is a permanent solution for people with severe sweating that does not respond to other treatments. It is a more invasive method, so it is important to consult a specialist to assess whether it is right for you.
Wear breathable clothing to prevent overheating
It may sound obvious, but one of the easiest ways to reduce sweating in summer is simply to stay cool. Sweating is caused by heat, so the simplest way to prevent it is to avoid overheating. This includes wearing light, breathable clothing, staying in the shade or in an air-conditioned space, and avoiding overly strenuous activity during the hottest hours. Choose fabrics that allow air to circulate, such as cotton, linen or natural blends, and avoid synthetic fabrics such as nylon or polyester. Let your feet breathe too – cool feet can lower the temperature of your whole body, so avoid thick socks and heavy shoes in the hot months.

Frequently asked questions
Botox is a liquid protein that relaxes, in a targeted way, the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. As a result, the wrinkles are reduced. The substance is injected directly into the muscle that causes the wrinkle. The effect lasts between 4 and 6 months.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural, gel-like substance that is injected into or under the skin. Thanks to its ability to bind water, the substance adds volume to the tissue, and so helps reduce wrinkles or smooth the skin. Depending on the product used, hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body over 9 to 24 months.
