In brief

  • Hyperhidrosis, particularly excessive sweating, affects around 2 to 3 per cent of the population, mainly in the underarms, palms and soles of the feet.
  • Botox blocks the nerve impulses that activate the sweat glands in the treated area, without affecting the body’s natural cooling.
  • The effect begins a few days after treatment and lasts on average between six and nine months.
  • The treatment takes up to 30 minutes, is almost painless and involves no recovery time.
  • The treatment is particularly suitable when deodorants with aluminium chloride or medication do not deliver results, and it is preceded by a consultation and examination.

A job interview. An important date. A public appearance. And then – dark patches under your arms, damp palms, an unpleasant feeling that draws all the attention. People who suffer from excessive sweating know these situations all too well. Especially at social or professional moments, excessive sweating is not only disruptive but also burdensome.

The good news: there is no need to put up with it. Targeted Botox treatments for underarm sweating can give you quality of life, ease and confidence in everyday life.

But how exactly does it work? And is Botox really an effective solution for hyperhidrosis? What are the benefits of the treatment? And who is it suitable for?

When sweating becomes a nuisance

Sweating is a completely natural process by which the body regulates its temperature. But when sweat production gets out of control, it quickly becomes a nuisance. In around 2 to 3 per cent of the population, sweating is particularly excessive, mainly in the underarms, but also on the palms and soles of the feet. This condition is called hyperhidrosis. The causes vary: hormonal changes, stress, genetic factors or certain illnesses.

While many people try to deal with the problem using strong deodorants, frequent changes of clothes or home remedies, in quite a few cases the problem is not really solved. For many, sweating is not only a physical problem but above all an emotional and social challenge.

Botox for underarm sweating: how the treatment works

What many people don’t know: botulinum toxin – Botox for short – familiar from aesthetic medicine, can not only smooth wrinkles but also help effectively against excessive sweating. The substance is injected with a fine needle directly into the affected areas of skin, usually the underarms, but if necessary also the palms or soles of the feet.

The effect is targeted and scientifically proven: Botox blocks the nerve impulses responsible for activating the sweat glands. The result: sweat production is significantly reduced in the treated area, without affecting the natural cooling mechanism of the body as a whole.

The effect begins just a few days after treatment – and lasts on average between six and nine months. After that, the treatment can be repeated as needed.

The benefits at a glance

  • Proven effectiveness: just one session significantly reduces sweating.
  • Quick treatment: the treatment takes up to 30 minutes and is almost painless.
  • No recovery time: you can return to your routine and work straight away.
  • Renewed confidence: no embarrassing patches or damp hands – a fresh, dry feeling.

What is important to know before treatment?

Before every treatment at Dermacare, a thorough consultation and examination take place. Not all sweating is the same, and sometimes there may be another medical reason for increased sweat production. Our doctors will take time to answer your questions, analyse your personal situation and, if necessary, recommend a treatment tailored to you.

Important: Botox treatments for sweating are particularly suitable when traditional measures such as deodorants containing aluminium chloride or medication do not deliver the desired result. In severe cases, the treatment may even be covered by your health fund (kupat holim).

Botox for the palms and soles too?

Apart from the underarms, excessive sweating of the palms or soles of the feet is a problem that affects many people – especially at work, at social gatherings or during sport.

Here too, Botox can be used in a targeted way to significantly reduce sweating. Although treatment in these areas is somewhat more complex, the results are convincing, especially for those who want to shake hands dryly and confidently again.

Are there any risks or side effects?

When performed by appropriately qualified doctors, Botox treatments are considered very safe. Mild redness, swelling or a temporary tingling sensation at the injection site are possible, but usually subside within a short time.
